# Field inspector

Change a field's equipment, layout, racking, and modeling settings.

Source: https://docs.solesca.com/editor/inspector/

Select a field on the map or in the **Layers** panel to open its inspector. The sections depend on the field type and design mode.

Click a value to enter it, or use its drag control where available. Check the displayed units and any validation message.

## Field

The header shows the field name and its current summary. The field menu provides actions such as locate, duplicate, hide, lock, and delete.

- **Template** applies a [design template](https://docs.solesca.com/system/design-templates/). When values differ, its sync control lets you apply the template's current settings.
- **Type** chooses the mounting surface and racking. See [Draw a field](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/fields/#type).
- **Setback** or **Height · Setback** controls the boundary clearance and, where relevant, structure height.
- **Azimuth · Tilt** on a pitched roof describes the roof itself.
- **Ground elevation**, where shown, controls the reference ground level for buildings.
- **Weather** chooses the weather source for the design.
- **Limit** provides the available power-limiting and AC-curtailment settings.

## ARGUS AI

Roof fields offer **Detect obstructions**, **Sensitivity**, and **Match all heights to 3D**. Check detected obstructions before relying on the layout. See [Obstructions](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/obstructions/) and [3D measurements](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/3d-measurements/).

## Alignment

Open the **Alignment** section to choose **Corner**, **Point**, or **Line** alignment.

Use the alignment point and 3×3 grid to choose which part of the layout lines up with the reference. In line mode, choose an existing line or **Draw new line…**. **Unalign rows** controls whether rows share their alignment.

Review the layout after changing its alignment, especially near boundaries and obstructions.

## Module & electrical

- **Module** selects the equipment used by the field.
- **Inverter group** shows the group supplying the field's inverter allocation.
- **Inverter** and **#INV · DC/AC** control the inverter model and sizing where the field owns those choices.
- **Mods per string** controls string length. Review the valid range shown for the selected equipment; use **Auto-calculate** to return to an automatic choice.
- **MLPE** and **Mods per MLPE**, where offered, describe module-level electronics.
- **Unstrung** identifies modules that are not allocated to an inverter.

If a row is controlled by a group, change it in the [inverter group](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/inverter-groups/). Bifaciality belongs to the module in the [equipment library](https://docs.solesca.com/system/modules-and-inverters/).

## Racking

The settings depend on the selected racking type.

| Settings | Purpose |
| --- | --- |
| Height and orientation | Module clearance or standoff, tracker tube height, or canopy clearance; portrait or landscape modules. |
| **Azimuth · Tilt** | Module direction and tilt for fixed racking. |
| **Max tilt** | Tracker rotation limit. |
| **Up · Wide** and module distances | Module arrangement within a table or frame. |
| **Group · Gap**, **Motor · Gap** | Group spacing and tracker motor spacing. |
| **Row spacing**, **Pitch · GCR · Span** | Alternative ways to describe row spacing. |
| **Driveway distance** | Access spacing between ground-mount groups. |
| Backtracking | The tracker backtracking setting. |

On roofs, use **Add frame** or **Remove frame** to change whether modules are arranged in frames. Use the preview beside a setting to understand its effect.

## Terrain

Terrain-enabled ground-mount fields offer product, slope, clearance, and pile settings. See [Terrain tracking](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/terrain/).

## Modeling & losses

Click **Customize loss & modeling** to review or override the field's modeling assumptions. Changes remain in the dialog until you save. See [Losses and modeling settings](https://docs.solesca.com/editor/losses/).

## Preview card

Hover a setting to see its explanation and visual preview. These previews help interpret the input; use the current layout and model results to review the design as a whole.
