Losses and modeling settings

Review a field's energy assumptions and save intentional overrides.

A field’s modeling assumptions can come from its design template or be customized for that field. Review the values used by your design before running a model.

Open the dialog

  1. Select a field.
  2. Open Modeling & losses in the field inspector.
  3. Click Customize loss & modeling.
  4. Review the Advanced losses dialog and change the relevant values.
  5. Click Save to apply the changes, or Cancel to discard them.

Reapplying a design template can replace field-specific modeling values. Review its differences before syncing. See Design templates.

Reusable assumptions

Use Energy modeling templates to save assumptions for repeated use. A design template can include one of these sets.

A default or template is a starting point. Use values appropriate to the equipment, site, and purpose of the estimate.

Soiling and snow

Choose automatic soiling and snow or enter monthly losses. With automatic modeling enabled, the monthly values are read-only and show the available modeled results. Run the model to obtain current values.

If you choose manual monthly values, check all twelve months and account for the site’s cleaning and seasonal conditions.

Electrical and other losses

The dialog groups loss assumptions such as module mismatch, wiring, connections, module-level electronics, transformer losses, availability, and degradation.

Read the sign convention beside each value. Most percentages represent losses; Module quality uses a positive value for a gain. Entering an efficiency where a loss is requested gives a different result.

Engineering designs can use calculated wiring losses. When automatic wiring losses are enabled, those values follow the wiring design. See Wiring.

Albedo, bifacial, and thermal settings

Review ground reflectivity and thermal assumptions in the energy modeling settings. Bifaciality is a property of the module, managed in the equipment library. Do not look for a separate field-level bifaciality override.

Review the result

Save the settings and run Model again. Use the report and energy files to review the resulting estimate. Keep the weather source and assumptions consistent when comparing design alternatives.
